She DOES Exist!
Her name is Maudry Evans and she lives in Tuscola Illinois. Why is Mrs. Maudry Evans important? What is the purpose of bringing up her name?
She's the only Linux User in the Continental United States that I didn't hack off this week. I haven't checked with the European Bureau yet, but from early returns, it ain't looking that rosy for me their either.
Why isn't Maudries flakes frosted? It's only because she is away on a cruise. Her laptop didn't make the trip.
She's due back Monday morning. I've emailed her so she doesn't feel excluded.
As usual, helios relies heavily upon embellishment and hyperbole to make his point. So you expected Yeats-like prose? Boy are you a slow learner.
Here's the deal...play along now, this is where I insert quotes from emails or comments received during the week:
"...and even I wasn't surprised you found a way to fit in your pet little projects into an interview that had nothing to do with the subject. I have to wonder how much you were paid..."
Oh, That's just a warm up. I was only accused of taking bribes on that one. Buckle in Bucko, it gets better.
"...left me scratching my head as to why you would bring these distros into the light of day. They are burried
.................................
"...and I noticed you made it a point to avoid mentioning Ubuntu at all cost. The sooner you relics get on board with the distro that is going to launch Linux, the sooner we can gain the precious marketshare you constantly whine about. Isn't there a porch full of old guys waiting for you so they can start the Dominos game?"
Oh hey, I'm in an expansive mood. Let's toss one more in just to round things off to an even number:
"The more you continue to tout these backport losers, the more they are going to be encouraged to stick around and confues
It was an interview folks. The question was asked: Why is the Tux500 project trying to include all distros in this effort instead of just the top dozen or so? I answered it honestly and openly. Linux isn't just the top few distros, its all of us. And...I will stand by my statement, a statement that led ol' commenter # 2 up there to curse and call me potty-mouth names.
Some of the most impressive and significant work is being done on a few of these "Backport Losers". Apparently, I exhibited the bad judgement of naming these names to Mr. Matt Hartley. Obviously it did not set well with many of you.
Yes, I did mention a few sub-top 10 distros in the interview and I thought they were noteworthy to mention. I still do. So here, let me do it again so everyone is on the same page as to which ones they were. In fact, here is the exact quote, brought to you by the same technology that gave us the copy and paste wizardry:
"...Take projects such as Vector linux,Elive, Nimblex and Sidux. All of these distributions have done somefairly amazing things to enhance their particular environment."
Tell me what is wrong with that statement....I mean beside the fact that none of the distros mentioned start or end with the letter "U".
Many of your emails came right out and demanded I apologize for this behavior. I've given it some thought. In fact, I've thought about it most of the weekend. And...you are right. I do owe some people an apology, and hindsight being 20/20, I don't know how I let myself do this. It's difficult to identify yourself as part of the "new media" When you make bonehead mistakes like this.
I am truly sorry.
I left out Linux Mint from that list.
Of the ones I mentioned, I have to say that this little jewel shines as brightly as the rest. Maybe just a twinkle or two more. In the opinion of on major newspaper editor, it kicks the snot out of the one he was given to try because "everyone is using it now". That's his opinion and if he isn't going to write about it, I will. I just have to check with him and see if it's ok to do so. That follows in about 48 hours. Struggle as he may with his slick packaged, Number-one-by-consensus Live CD, it failed to do even the most basic of things on his computer. He himself was left scratching his head as to what all the fuss was about Linux. Soon did he learn that a 16 cent el-cheapo disk with sharpie writing on it could answer that question for him.
And yes, the reference to Yeats was intentional. Our lads who develop Linux Mint are Irish as well. I'm sure their eyes will be smiling soon.
All-Righty Then
